The Basics

Two teams of 5 take turns on offense and defense. The offense moves the ball down the field. The defense tries to stop them.

Downs

The offense gets 4 tries (downs) to move the ball 10 yards. Make it and you get 4 more. Fail and the other team takes over where you stopped.

Scoring

Reach the end zone for a touchdown (6 pts), then choose: kick for 1 extra point or go for 2. Kick a field goal for 3. Force a safety for 2.

Communication

The QB calls the play and routes appear on the field for your team. Coordinate over VOIP. Every position is a real person making real decisions.

Game Flow

4 quarters, 5 minutes each. Halftime flips sides. Clock management matters. Run it down or call plays fast to come back.

TERM CHEAT SHEET

Down

One play attempt. You get 4 per set. "3rd and 5" means 3rd try, 5 yards to go.

Line of Scrimmage (LOS)

Where the ball is placed. The invisible line both teams line up on before each snap.

Snap

The Center passes the ball to the QB to start the play.

Touchdown (TD)

When the ball crosses the opponent's end zone line. Worth 6 points.

Interception (INT)

A defender catches a pass meant for the offense. Possession flips immediately.

Field Goal (FG)

Kicking the ball through the uprights. Worth 3 points. Usually tried on 4th down.

Safety

The offense gets tackled in their own end zone. Defense gets 2 points and the ball.

Punt

Kicking the ball away on 4th down to push the other team back instead of risking a turnover.

Route

The path a receiver runs after the snap. Shown on-field when the QB calls the play.

Blitz

When extra defenders rush the QB instead of dropping into coverage. High risk, high reward.

QB
Quarterback

Calls the play, reads the defense, throws the ball. The field general.

C
Center

Snaps the ball and holds the line alone. The only lineman. Every snap is a 1v1 battle.

LWR
Left Wide Receiver

Runs routes on the left side. Speed, timing, and route-running win here.

RWR
Right Wide Receiver

Stretches the field from the right. Pull coverage and get open for the big play.

RB
Running Back

Runs specialized routes out of the backfield. Screen passes, check-downs, and open-field playmaking.

PLAY CALLING

The quarterback picks a play from a playbook. Receivers see their assigned routes drawn on the field so everyone knows where to go. The defense calls their own coverage.

Pre-snap reads happen through VOIP coordination between real players. If the defense shows blitz, the QB adjusts. If the offense shifts, the defense reacts. Communication is the weapon. Every snap is a chess move.

LINE BATTLES

The defensive lineman can fake a rip move to bait the blocker, then commit the opposite direction. Read the fake correctly and the defender gets punished. Bite on it and they're through to the quarterback.
